BPSA Plans Program To Help New Bike Buyers Enjoy Their Bikes

The Bicycle Product Suppliers Association plans to launch a program to help new bike buyers "have more fun and rider safer on their new bikes."

The BPSA already produces a bicycle owner's manual that is used by many bike brands as the basis of their own manuals. The new program, tentatively called, would include a mobile app and website that delivers videos related to basic riding skills, tips on safety, finding routes, basic maintenance and things to carry on a bike ride.

The BPSA's board approved seed money for a two-year plan to develop the program.

The board met in Boulder on June 16, led by its new president, Adam Micklin.

Besides approving the program, the board  voted to continue funding and expanding its legislative monitoring and e-bike partnerships with PeopleForBikes, and its BLC scholarship program with the Outdoor Industries Women's Coalition.

The board also approved an increase in BPSA membership dues for 2016-2017. It is the first increase since 2008.

In other association developments, the BPSA welcomed its two newest board members to their first meeting: Claudia Wasko from Bosch, and Brian Benzer from SRAM, who is replacing John Dixon. BPSA also passed statements of endorsement for Project Bike Tech and the Professional Bicycle Mechanics Association.
