Adventure Cycling expands headquarters

MISSOULA, MT (BRAIN)—Adventure Cycling Association is close to completing an expansion of its Missoula, Montana, headquarters. The nonprofit group will celebrate the unveiling with a block party for members, donors and supporters July 6.

“Now we have ample room not only for Adventure Cycling’s 32 current staff but also at least 12-15 more new staff in coming years,” wrote executive director Jim Sayer on the ACA’s blog. “Bike travel is growing and we expanded our facility so we can better serve Adventure Cycling members and other cyclists nationwide.”

In the last decade, Adventure Cycling has upped membership by 19 percent and cycling map sales by 48 percent.

Last year Adventure Cycling paid off its mortgage on the headquarters and began the $640,000 renovation and expansion, funded in part by its Life Member Fund. Individual donors provided the remainder of the funding.

“We raised enough money to not have to take on any debt to complete the project,” said Amanda Lipsey, development director of Adventure Cycling. “That's nothing short of a miracle in these economic times.”

The expanded headquarters is a greener facility, constructed with recycled materials and environmentally friendly fixtures.

The July 6 block party will be held at 150 E. Pine Street in Missoula, Montana, and will include ice cream, food and drinks, art, guided tours and live music.
